Student Name: Bhumi
Profession: Brand Designer
Problems She Identified:
Not knowing how to speak to clients
Feeling Nervous
Rambling
Struggled with answering questions asked by the client
Problems I Identified:
Not firm with her words
Lack of structure
No emotional connection with her Pitch
Fast Speaker
Goal set by us: To be able to speak with clients and close more deals
Steps taken to tackle these problems
The first thing we did to tackle Bhumi’s problem was to make her feel comfortable selling her services to others. I was able to identify that she was a little insecure about her ability to sell. So I reassured her saying “The Client needs you as much or if not more than you need the Client”.
The second step we took was to put some structure into her pitch. We noted down questions that she could ask the client, I encouraged her to write down keywords and use the mirroring method to make the client feel understood. We broke down her pitch into 3 elements.
1. What is the problem she can solve for the client?
2. Her journey and experience as a designer.
3. Understanding the client's story, and journey and following up with social proof to reassure the client.
The next problem we dealt with was emotional connection with the client. This was established through storytelling, where I trained Bhumi to come up with her journey in the form of a story using the storytelling formula.
Then we dealt with elements like handling nervousness, tough questions, and feeling overwhelmed through a mock pitch, where I played the role of a potential client and asked her some common tough questions and taught her how to tackle these types of questions.
Lastly, we paced ourselves and explored pitch, volume, and the power of silence to help her with her rapid speech pattern.
